7 reasons my classes are better!

Registration is now open for my next 2 photography classes! Composition 101 starts on 1/8/2018 and Manual & More starts on 4/9/18. Details of the classes can be found HERE, and I would love to have you join me!

So not only have I been teaching photography online for a while now, but I've also been taking photography classes almost continually during this time from lots of different teachers and lots of different sites. And I want to toot my horn a little bit and tell you how my classes are different than other online photography classes. First of all, most of my students are busy women and moms, and their time is precious. So if they're going to carve out the money and time for a photography class I want to make sure it's worth their while! Because of this there are some things I do differently, and I hope make my classes a wonderful experience!

1 - My classes are 7 weeks long, and that's more than twice as long as the most of the 3-week, online classes you'll find out there. Why? Because, honestly I just don't think you can learn the content and techniques in 3 short weeks. Most of my students are moms, and they are busy. 3 weeks flies by before you know it, especially if a kiddo unexpectedly comes down with the flu. I know that time and practice are an absolutely must to learn the material presented. And I want to give you the time to not only absorb the material, but also apply what you learn, practice it and get feedback from your teacher. And I don't think most people can or want do that in less time.

2 - I do my best to present the material in easy-to-understand language in a concise format that you can get through. I recently took a 3-week photography class that had over 120 pages of written material, not to mention additional videos, discussion boards and links to other content. While I appreciate the thoroughness of the information, I just didn't have time to get through it all! I'm not going to do that to you. I will present you with the most important information that you can quickly absorb and apply.

3 - This class is not a just a PDF. Yes, there is written material that you can keep, but more importantly, even though my classes are online, they are an interactive experience with other students and a teacher there the whole time to guide you, answer your questions, give you feedback, help you when you get frustrated and support your journey. I'll be there with you every day. If you have questions, I'm there to answer them. No matter what your skill level you're at, I'll tell you what you're doing right and specific ways to improve your technique.

4 - I'm flexible. Really, I am! In my classes you'll find flexible due dates for assignments, (if you should choose to turn them in at all that is) and a flexible end date for the class. Yes, you read that right! At the end of 7 weeks, if that still isn't enough time for you, you always have the option to stay in class longer to catch up on lessons, ask more questions and review content. How long? Well, that goes back to the me-being-flexible part. I'm sure we can make it work for you. Long story short, life happens, and I get that, and still I want class to work out for you.

5 - There is never any "live" content during my classes, and thus there's no need to be "in class" at any particular time or date. You won't miss anything due to car pool duty or a doctor's appointment. I want my students to come to class whenever it works for them whether it be during nap time, in the middle of the night or only on weekends. I want you to come to class when it's convenient for you and your family. It's not uncommon for a student to take a whole week off in the middle of class for a family vacation.

6 - I'm actually a teacher. Trained and certified. I use a variety of mediums to present my material because I understand that people have different learning styles. I appreciate that a supportive atmosphere that encourages participation is one that helps all students learn. So far I've had over a thousand students from the United States, Canada, many countries in Europe, China and even Africa, and it has been an amazing honor to walk with them in their photography journey. And I hope you'll be the next one!

All in all, I want YOU to have a good experience when you take one of my classes. I want you excited about photography and the photos you're creating. I want you to learn something new and develop the artist that's within you! When all is said and done, I want you to be happy that you invested your time and money taking a class with me.

And if you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
