Well maybe it's not a family fave, but it's MY fave, and it's my blog so I'm gonna post it if I want to!
- 1 egg
- 1 c milk
- 1 c corn meal
- 1 c flour
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil
- Bacon grease (optional)
Whisk egg and milk together in a bowl.
Wash, trim and slice okra into 1/4" slices and soak in egg batter.
Heat 1/2" of vegetable oil in skillet over medium heat. Add some bacon grease if your upbringing leans to the south! (Or even if it doesn't.)
Combine corn meal and flour in a second bowl.
Dredge okra in cornmeal mixture.
Place okra in hot oil, browning on one side then the other. Cook till golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
Then think of your Nana and how much she loved you as you clean up the mess.
