For the rest of you this is Labor Day.
For us it's Forever Family Day.
5 years ago we landed in Saigon, and only a few hours later we walked into a very hot steamy orphanage. They served us hot tea and left us alone in a bare room. And 10 minutes later these two sweeties were carried through the door, and in our lives, and we were changed forever.
Ya, we missed her birthday by 1 day. He had less hair than I imagined and bruises all over his legs. He cried. Then cried some more. And eventually fell asleep in between the gasps.
She was a year old, weighed 15 lbs, and couldn't sit or bare any weight on her legs. She was transferred to our arms as if we were just another in a long line of caregivers and didn't make eye contact for months.
For those of you who haven't seen it... here is the video that we watch every year and lots of times in between.
And we will surely be watching it together several times today.
Someone pass me the tissues.
It still gets me every single time.
