Catching snowflakes

As is quickly becoming a tradition in our family, we packed up as soon as Christmas was over and headed up to Little Cabin in the Woods... aka our little slice of heaven.
As hardly ever happens, the weather fully cooperated and blanketed everything in snow.  I must say, even to these old eyes, it was breathtaking.  There were jackets and gloves and ski pants and hats and gloves and scarves and boots and gloves and wet socks and mittens and gators and gloves and and and... strewn all over every inch of the cabin. And then just when we didn't think it was possible, it got better and started to snow some more!
The 3 little ones have never seen snow coming down, and Tess stood at the window that first morning and said, Hey look... it's raining dots!  That's one of the reasons I have this blog, so I don't forget little things like that.
And so we did something that probably only desert rats would do.  We bundled everyone up and took a walk in the lovely raining dots.
Several of the bigs were missing.  Off working.  Or sledding. Or skiing.
So serene and beautiful... even with getting the car stuck once and the 2 dead car batteries.
It was everything one hopes winter can be.

  7. Beautiful!!! Love the last one. Even us northern folks who see lots and lots of snow celebrate the first snow and go for a walk to catch snowflakes, especially with littles around.

  10. So funny to see a different perspective on snow. Here in MN we only really enjoy the first snowfall because we know there is more to come along with the bitter cold. I guess if I enjoyed skiing or snowmobiling or ice fishing it wouldn't seem so bad. :-)
Love the "rain coming as dots"!

  11. Okay, I love all of these but my favorites are the window shot and Livy blowing the snow. Of course growing up in Florida, I've never had the chance to catch snowflakes, but I'm not really jealous...really, okay maybe I am.

    1. I really like that one of Livy too! We practiced it several times. Surprisingly it's kinda hard to blow snowflakes pretty.

  12. They are all fantastic photos, Nancy. I just love coming to your blog and seeing what you have posted. You inspire me to "someday" try to be a better "picture taker" - I don't even come close to being a photographer. :( I also love your inspirational posts about being a mom. Happy New Year!

And photography, like most other things, takes lots of practice. Lucky for us, it's fun practice!
