Summer bucket list: 1 of 3

I have 3 things on my summer bucket list.  Only 3.  Don't want to set my goals too high, ya know.

#1--Take a photography class.
Get better.  Get out of rut.  Learn more.  Do better.  Be a story teller.  Have a higher return rate.  Become an instinctual photographer.  Notice the details.  See the light.  Be creative.  Shoot all manual all the time.  Copy the best.  Capture the moments.

In order to meet object #1, I needed to find a class to take.  Being the over achiever I am, I signed up for 2.  There are things I adore about both photographers, but they produce very different products.

Ashley Ann's class is more about the fundamentals.  A brush up of the essentials is in order.  What I most adore about Ashley's photos is her story-telling, narrative style.  It's as if her photos need no words.  Her images strung together weave an entire story in their own right.  I want to do that.  I want to capture my world that way.

Lisa's class is beyond the basics.  It's designed to push participants out of their comfort zone.  That makes me really nervous.  And that's probably exactly why I should do it.  Lisa's style is so technically precise.  The bright colors and crispness of her photos are divine.  I want to do that.  I want to capture my world that way.  Déjà vu.

I know I'll learn so much in these two classes.  Putting them into practice, and breaking old habits will be the tricky part.

So what's on your summer bucket list?

  1. YES. Don't tell anybody, but #1 on my list is to quit my job and get my own business going out of my home. Oooh... I can't wait!

Love the idea of taking a photography class too. That's one thing I'd love to master...

Photography, and singing. Ha! I have a better chance of getting good at photography, I think. :)

  2. O Nice! On my summer bucket list? I am going to purchase a decent camera and learn how to use it! So I am loving your Photography 101 post. Now, someone just tell me which camera to buy!

  3. The Martins-
I'd recommend the Canon T3i and a 50mm 1.8. It's a nice starter camera. Nikon is wonderful too, I just don't know their line very well. Stick to one of these 2 brands.
Email me and we'll talk more! How exciting!

  4. I guess I don't like to set my expectations too high either. lol

    1. Complete our China dossier for adoption #3

    2. Improve my photography skills, just like you- mastering the basics and storytelling with Ashley Ann and pushing myself beyond what I normally shoot with Lisa. So excited to be doing this with ya!

  5. Oh, I wish I could take those classes! Story telling is something I really struggle with and WANT to do. But I have so much to get in order at home. I'll just have to enjoy what you share for now!

  7. I have only one thing on my bucket list. It's very selfish in a way..but in the long run will benefit my family.

I want to start fighting for my health. I have/had given up. I quit pushing myself to do more instead choosing to believe things would only continue to get worse.

No amount of massive mind-bending skills I might acquire by choosing to "live" is going to change my condition, diagnosis, treatment, and traveling the country to meet with specialist after specialist to be smacked in the face with the same bad news. Every. Single. Time.

See, I've got this awesome girl. She's ten. We're close and this is so very hard for her to understand. She's had to grow up much too soon and worry too much about her momma and if momma will be conscious when she gets home for school or collapsed on the floor or bed with a seizure.

I want to live this summer. I want to make this summer with my Lillian special...while we are stuck at home because I no longer have a drivers license. We are going to bake, tend our garden, spend nights painting canvases and then working on some collaborative pieces. I want Lilly to remember the summer she was 10. Her momma may not be here for the summer she was 11.
