The good, the bad, and the ugly.

The good-  We are home.  We got home Saturday evening.  The flight went as well as we could possibly hope for.  Mimi slept 8 of the 11 hour flight.  The extra seat we purchased for her, although not required since she is under 2-years-old, was worth every penny.
The bad-  We have been sick ever since.
And the ugly-  Like throw up and more sick.  A lot.  3+ days so far of no sleep and being ill for several of us.  God bless the two people in our house who aren't dealing with either jetlag and/or are sick, Papa and Sunny.  Poor Papa has been nurse maid and cleaned all the linens in the house more than once.  Baby cakes seems not to be sick so far except her clock is still set on China time, and she's up every night from 12:30-4:30.  Which would be fine by me, expect she's tired and doesn't want to play.  She wants to fight me with every part of her being for 4 hours.  Hitting, scratching, crying...  Yet she wants no part of anyone else in the house, so she literally stays on my very nauseous stomach most of the time.  I pass her off to Papa every once in a while, screaming in protest, to throw up.   Being sick while constantly being jostled by a toddler who simultaneously hates yet won't let go of me is difficult at best.

Remind me this is no time to judge my past decisions.

I'm ready for this part to be over.

  1. Nancy,
I know you don't know me, but I have followed your blog since you left for China. I have been praying for you, sweet Mazie and your whole family. I was waiting for you to update because I wanted to hear how you all were doing. I will keep praying for all of you! That stuff is no fun no matter when you get it, especially not after being gone for a while. I will share this with you. My husband and I have three biological children and are currently waiting to be matched with a child from China. This is the second month the shared list has come out and we have not received an email. As I woke up this morning, I was disappointed. I know God has called us to adopt, but waiting on His timing can be hard! In my quiet time I read this scripture.... Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galations 6:9. It helped me this morning as I struggled with this waiting process. I hope it will encourage you today. I hope you all get to feeling better. I will pray for Mazie also. God bless you!

  3. Oh ick! BUT so glad you are home safe and sound. Food poisoning or stomach flu? Oh boy - we are leaving for China tomorrow morning. Mazie is getting all those emotions out and that is SO good!! I hope you all get to feeling better very, very soon and that Mazie will soon understand that she is with her new family who love her very, very much.

  4. Oh, I am so sorry. We are praying for you and your whole family! This, too, shall pass even though it may not feel that way right now. Praying that even now the illness will lift, and that you will all begin to feel better soon!

  5. Wish I could be there to help you out, being a nurse I'm sure I could handle the throwing up and the cleaning... just so you all (yes papa too) could rest and get your normal clock back on track.

Wish all the best of the world!!!

  6. Oh no Nancy, I am so sorry to read this but am so relieved you are home. I know the thoughts that are running through your head minus the sickness. I cannot imagine what it must be like while throwing up at the same time. Prayers to your family.

  12. Oh man, what a way to end the trip.
I enjoyed meeting you in China at the breakfast buffet. We are also home & having the same sleeping issues. Melaina is up from 12-4ish every night so far! Mama is not getting rest & feeling the blues. We both have to remember this will pass, although it's SO hard right now running on empty.
    Sweet blessings to your family.

  17. Oh my friend! This will pass! Any chance a doctor would give you a prescription for phenagran? It's a very effective anti-nauseau drug-- don't know what I'd have done in China without it (when I had a toddler strapped to my stomach while I threw up-- never let anyone tell you taking lots of ziplocks is unnecessary!). It will get better. Everyone will feel better, days and nights will get straightened out, and pretty soon Miss Mazie is going to discover she's landed in a house full of love. Hang in there-- this is the worst of it.

  18. Good morning Nancy et al - This is - in fact - not a good time to judge your decisions! And while I'm at it - also probably not the best cure for jet lag either!!

But for all of the difficult you are facing - your daughter is still trusting you enough to vent her anger...and that's a LOT of TRUST - what I'm saying is you are doing it RIGHT even when you are sick as a dog....well done (and our Father is saying that too - you are being that "good and faithful servant")

We'll hold you guys in our hearts and prayers - it WILL pass!

hugs - gentle ones! - aus and co.
