Art 5 - - - - check!

In my email this morning I found this waiting!  It's from half way across the world which explains why it came at 12:21am while I was sleeping.

Dear Adoptive Parent,

The Adopted Children's Immigrant Visa Unit (ACIVU) at U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou has finished processing your child's Article 5, and your file is ready to be returned to your adoption agency's facilitator today.

Next, your agency will deliver the Article 5 and Letter of Seeking Confirmation to the China Center for Children's Welfare and Adoption (CCCWA), which will issue the Travel Approval (TA).  The TA allows you to come to China to finalize the adoption, so once the CCCWA issues the TA, your agency can email us to request an immigrant visa appointment at the Consulate.  When your agency requests an appointment, they are required to submit your five choices in rank order.  The ACIVU strives to schedule every family for their top appointment choice on which we still have available visa appointments.  We do not reserve certain days for children of certain ages.  All appointments are open to adopted children of any age and medical condition, and they are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.  We then notify your agency of the scheduled date and time.

We look forward to meeting you and your new family member when you come to the Consulate for your visa appointment!

Best regards,

Adopted Children's Immigrant Visa Unit (ACIVU)
U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou

The Art 5 is the last step that the US gov't has to approve the adoption.  The Art 5 is basically an approval of the NVC letter which is an approval of the i800 which is all pre-approved in advance with the i800a which of course we don't want it to stop there was an approval of our home study that was completed back in June of 2010.  Clear as mud I know.  Yes, that actually is the system of the US govt.  So we are officially done with US approvals!!!! (insert huge sigh of relief here)  Now we wait for China's step, the travel approval.  (insert holding breath here)  As soon as the travel approval comes, we'll know specific travel dates, can book our plane tickets, and go get our Mimi.
Average time to get approval is 16 days, but Chinese New Year (or Tet as it is called in our house the Vietnamese way) is coming, and will likely delay the approval at least another week.  So we'll be looking for our TA in early February!  And hopeful that travel will be in late February.
I'm starting to ache for her.

  10. Yeee-ha! Congratulations!

My sister's adoption process was repeatedly messed up on the U.S. side of things, so at this point if I was in your shoes I'd heave a big sigh of relief and begin checking to make sure all the luggage is in good shape, all the locks TSA-approved, all the stuffed animals are in place, all the sippy cups are purchased... 8-D
